Factors for Evaluating Lithium Battery Cost-Performance

1. Energy Density
Lithium batteries with high energy density can store and release more electrical energy under the same volume or weight, enabling devices or vehicles equipped with such batteries to have longer endurance mileage or usage time—thereby enhancing their practical value and cost-performance. For example, in new energy vehicles, lithium batteries with high energy density can reduce the volume and weight of the battery pack, increase the vehicle’s driving range, and improve the vehicle’s performance and practicality.
2. Cycle Life
A longer cycle life means a lithium battery can undergo more charge-discharge cycles, providing more total electrical energy throughout its service life and reducing the cost per unit of electrical energy. For devices that require long-term use and frequent charge-discharge cycles, such as electric vehicles and energy storage systems, lithium batteries with long cycle life are more cost-effective.
3. Safety
Safety performance is one of the key factors to consider for lithium batteries. Lithium batteries with good safety can reduce the risk of safety accidents such as fire and explosion during use, protect the user’s life and property safety, and minimize potential losses caused by safety issues. The new national standard for lithium batteries, which has been implemented since November 1, 2024, puts forward clear requirements for the quality and testing methods of lithium batteries. Lithium batteries that meet the standard have more reliable quality, are safer to use, and thus have improved cost-performance.
4. Cost and Price
The cost of lithium batteries includes raw material costs, production costs, R&D costs, etc., while the price refers to the actual fee paid by consumers at the time of purchase. Under the condition of similar performance, lithium batteries with low cost and reasonable price have higher cost-performance. With the improvement of the industrial chain and technological progress, the cost of lithium batteries has gradually decreased, and the price has become more competitive, continuously enhancing their cost-performance in the market.
